Fabulous quality George III sterling silver epergne. Made by Rebecca Emes & Edward Barnard in London in 1819. Baluster shaft with leaf borders and flanges on trapezoidal concave base with corner ram? S head monopodia with volute-scroll terminals in turn mounted to same frame with corner leaf-capped volute-scrolls supports. Baluster surmounted by 4 leaf-wrapped scrolls supporting ring inset with clear cut-glass liner.
Four leaf-wrapped scrolled arms each terminating in open leaf bowls inset with same. Beaded, palmette, and leaf-and-dart borders. Georgian Regency Classicism with a practical twist. Bowls have threaded mounts and can be replaced with candle sockets for conversion to a 4-light candelabrum. Dimensions: H 19 3/4 x W 18 x D 18 in.
